RE: GT Xpress

Do I like gadgets? I love kitchen appliances. I am thinking of starting a group -- Keep Away, Kitchen Appliances. We'll call it KaKa. :E
I think the GT Xpress website has lots of recipes. I almost bought one, haven't broken yet.

RE: Lodge Enamel Cast-Iron Apple Pot

Thanks, everyone (except Wayne) for all your suggestions/help. In the end, I just couldn't pay so much money. Maybe another time ---
Wayne. Wayne. Wayne.
Thanks for the laugh!!! Very funny, and actually a good point. It IS just a pot. On the other hand, it's nice to have something you enjoy seeing while you are cooking, washing said pot, etc. Maybe silly, but why the heck not?
Your post came right when I needed a giggle --- thank you.

Lodge Enamel Cast-Iron Apple Pot

Hello. Anyone have one of these --- Lodge Enamel Cast-Iron Apple Pot? I am really wanting one --- they are just so cute. I am wondering about the way they are sort of tapered to a smaller bottom (like an apple is) --- how does that work when you are cooking with it? For some reason I can't put my finger on, it seems like that could be a problem. Anything else anyone wants to tell me about this little pot? Easy to clean? What do you cook in it? It is a good price right now on Amazon, it is time to jump if I am going to. (I think $80 is a good price. But that is alot of money, I need to be sure I am going to love it for a really really long time.) I'm tired of pans that last a couple of years, then need to be replace. Now that's expensive, too!
Thanks to everyone for your help.

RE: kid in a candy store

Borrowed Grandkids = Beautiful.
One of my best friends was married to an abusive jerk. Thank goodness, they had no children and the marriage ended. But she loved her mother-in-law.
They stayed in each other's life, through a second marriage and two children. That MIL has always been the extra Grandma (and to be fair, the best one). The second husband loves her, too.
This week the oldest son (of the second marriage, stay with me here.:C) was married. He's 26 years old. That MIL (now in her late 80's) came about 800 miles to attend the wedding. How could they have a wedding without her?
So, I don't know how you came into your borrowed Grandkids, but it is the most beautiful thing to have them. I have borrowed neices and nephews. (I've never heard anyone say borrowed like that before, and I'm stealing it. :B )
Family, borrowed or not, is an amazing thing. Borrowed is the biggest honor.

RE: milkless cream gravy

On the Oregon Coast, EVERY restaraunt seems to advertise 'Award Winning Clam Chowder' --- we wondered how many awards there are. Anyway, one place had dairy-free chowder --- I asked about it, and it was coffee creamer. Wow, huh?

RE: Early 20s Considering Doing This

Peoplethought:
Here is what I have told my sons, when they were your age-ish.
24 years old. You COULD have 4 or 5 kids by now. You have CHOSEN NOT to do that, and so you have EARNED the right to freedom of choices. If/when the day comes that you have those sorts of responsibilties, it will be time to live a different way than you may choose now. Stay clean, stay sober, stay creative and kind and do what you think you should. Life is really good, and actually pretty short. And my guess is you will do this for this part of your life, and then do something different. Maybe. Maybe not. Keep thinking peoplethoughts, it will all work out. :C

RE: cast iron ??

Maybe we should have this page moved to a general topics page (Around the Campfire?) -- I would like to ask this question ---
Has anyone figured out how to NOT buy stuff made in China? I try -- and then I find out that even old American companies (ex. Nesco) are now making their stuff in China.
How do we avoid that? Honestly -- has anyone found a way?
Thanks.

RE: Rosemary Lemonade -- very refreshing!

Thanks for being kind, about my question. I am thinking of dried rosemary just because then you could have a glass when you want it, and not have to worry about the rosemary going bad. Maybe put the rosemary in the water an hour or so before mixing the drink mix. I think I am going to try it tomorrow -- oh, wait. I don't have rosemary. When I get some, I am going to try this and will post the results.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

RE: What did I get myself into? I'M DONE!!!

Just be really, really careful with the mold. Use a mask, gloves, etc.
While we still owned a stick-house, we had a flood in the basement, and people came in space suits to clean it up. Our insurance covered it --- but be careful, very very careful.

Okay, not all. Let's not make sweeping and judgemental statements. I agree with the poster that said what if it were your family? Goodness, none of those so-called have-nots CAUSED the hurricane by their have-not-ish-ness.

RE: Both tank valves open???

We had a Wanderer 5th Wheel, and we always left the tanks closed. Now we have a 1996 or 94 -- I forget --- Travel Supreme TT, and right in it's book it says to leave them open. The black tank has a built in flusher, like a Flush King, that we use 1x a week, or so. No problems. My husband is going out of town for 3 weeks, and I am liking that the tanks will be open, not closed. Less for me to worry about, I think.

RE: RV Parks in Eugene Oregon

Kim: Do you know that it rains every day in the winter in Eugene, Oregon? There are not many options for RV parks - we stay often at the Premier RV Resort on exit 199. They have a pool, but of course it is closed in the winter. Also, since it is on the freeway, it isn't exactly quiet. Have you heard of this place called Florida? Arizona?
I say this as a devout (and native) Oregonian.
tgt:
thank you for your response. Yes, I do know that. Our son lives there!! Guess that says it all ---
I wondered if pools would close in the winter.
I think Premier RV is really expensive. And yeah, on the freeway. I am trying to find a place maybe in Coburg. Out by the McKenzie River -- close, but pretty.

RV Parks in Eugene Oregon

I am not sure if this should go here, or under Full Timing -- but here it goes.
We would like to spend the winter in or very near Eugene, Oregon. We would like to have a monthly rate at an RV Park, hopefully sort of a reasonable cost. (Is $300-400 reasonable?) We would like it, of course, to be a safe and quiet place. A pool would be great -- but that is probably hard to come by.
Suggestions?
thanks ----

RE: Please help me plan some easy meals!!!

An easy breakfast: Take a 12 cup muffin pan and spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Break one egg into each cup and pierce the yolks with a fork. Add salt/pepper and other seasonings. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until the eggs are done. Serve them with english muffins, cheese slices and canadian bacon slices, and let the kids fashion their own "egg mcmuffins". Since all you have to do is bake the eggs and set out the other stuff, there is almost no work involved.
Rachel Ray recently made a thing she called Green Eggs and Ham. Basically, it is this recipe, with a couple differences. She sort of lined the muffin pan little spaces with thin sliced ham. Then she put in a couple of spoonfuls of a creamed spinach (hence, the Green Eggs) and then put an egg on top. She didn't pierce the yolks, I am pretty sure. Bake 'em, eat 'em.
I tried to find this on the website (Food Network) but couldn't find it, and decided really, it is just a method, you can do anything you want with it. Which Rachel also said.
Sounds good, huh? I haven't tried it yet. If anyone has or does, let us know. :)

RE: Left behind

Oh my God, omygod, Tom. I am so sorry. I did not mean to say that you did the wrong thing with the Jack D. ...... honest, I didn't. I was thinking of people who would NOT be AS HONEST as you and keep the good stuff (not that Jack isn't good stuff ;))-- how we always say that possession is 9/10ths of law, stuff like that, to really try to justify stealing, and nice to have a clear law that disputes that. So, I am really really sorry I was not more clear. :o Thanks for speaking up, and giving me a chance to explain.

RE: Left behind

A bit of sage advice.
Don't try that in Canada. We have a law here, it's called Theft by Finding. Carries the same penalties as a blatant theft.
BTC
Great law!!! Canada rocks!!! Sometimes we don't seem very civilized, I think. We could learn from other countrys.
